MUSIC THEORY
While every student acquires the basics of
music as he or she studies an instrument, the concepts must be
well understood in order to achieve proficiency and skill.
MILI's classes in Music Theory cover note reading, pitch
values and meter; intervals, scales and keys; chords and
symbols; and expression marks that include tempo, dynamics and
style. Group classes are split into two age-appropriate
levels. Private or semi-private classes can also be
arranged. See

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Performing is a valuable tool that can help
develop lifelong skills in a young person. It brings
discipline as well as maturity as it showcases a student's
time and effort in a creative process. We strongly believe
that performing is a positive experience that inspires and
reinforces self-confidence and self-esteem. Those who perform
prepare well, working on pieces to achieve the highest level
of their abilities.
The end of each semester
is celebrated with Student
Solo Recital programs that are open to all students. We also
perform at Steinway Hall, the Landmark on Main Street in Port
Washington, the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island and Dix
Hills Performing Arts Center at Five Towns College.
Throughout the year and particularly during the December
holiday season, we perform before a variety of organizations
and audiences. These have included the Bayside Historical
Society; The Mall at the Source (Fortunoff); the Nassau County
United Cerebral Palsy Center; the North Shore University
Hospital Center for Extended Care & Rehabilitation; and the
Women's Club of the Willistons. WCBS-TV, WABC-TV, and
Disney World in Orlando have featured our chamber groups.
Recently, we completed a series of five annual Young Musicians
concerts at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
ALUMNI
Over many years, we have seen how musical
responsibilities, (home practice, lesson playing, rehearsing
and performing), blend into the process that produces academic
and social success for many of our students and alumni.
Our students come from Nassau and Suffolk
counties as well as the borough of Queens. They represent a
broad range of backgrounds, ethnicities, and interests outside
of music. Many are outstanding scholars, and our alumni
include students who have graduated or currently attend
Amherst, Colgate, Dartmouth, and Northwestern, as well as many
other prestigious universities and colleges.
