 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS 

1)  Make Your Own Fashion: Learn to Tie-Dye A Shirt; Hand Painted Shirt or Shorts and   Make Jewelry. Dress appropriately to get messy and have fun! There is a minimum of 4 students per session.

Ages: Entering 1st through 6th grade

 

2)  Sing Like the Stars: This group class will give students the opportunity to sing like a Pro. Learn to sing pop tunes as well as Broadway standards. The repertoire will include selections from High School Musical, Jonas Brothers and Broadway Classics. Students will also be introduced to the proper use of the microphone, posture and stage presence. There is a minimum of 4 students per session.

Ages: Entering 1st through 6th grade

 

3)  Record Your Own Hit Single: Over the course of our one-week program, students will write, perform, and record their very own original song. Daily assistance in writing, editing, and arranging their music will be given and by the completion of the course students will have a CD recording of their work. 

Students are encouraged to collaborate with one another in singing/playing and accompanying their music. Students of all instruments and voices are welcome to participate. Assistance in recording accompaniment tracks will be given by MILI faculty. An intermediate level of playing or above is recommended. There is a minimum of 4 students per session.

 

Focus includes:

- song writing and lyrics

- basic arranging and accompaniment

- performance in a studio setting

- assisting MILI teachers in the recording process

4)  Intro to Cello: Learn the basics of Cello in a group setting. Each day includes a 45

minute group class, and an hour of group lesson with individual attention for each student. Rental of a cello (size appropriate) required. There is a minimum of  4 students per session.

5)  Intro to Violin: Learn the basics of violin playing. Students will make their own pre-violin and decorate a foot chart! The student will be introduced to the Suzuki method and at the end of the week will be able to pizzicato and/or bow one of the twinkle rhythms. Rental of a violin (size appropriate) required. There is a minimum of  4 students per session.

6)  Intro to Guitar: Learn Rock/Pop/Blues/Classical in 1 week. No experience necessary! Acoustic or electric guitar & piece required. There is a minimum of  4 students per session.

Ages: 6 -12

 

7)  Intro to Electric Bass: Also known as "bass guitar", this introductory course to electric bass will cover a wide variety of material. Students will learn basic fundamentals, scales, etc. and several fun Rock, Blues, and Jazz bass lines. By the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to perform songs of various genres in a group setting. No experience is required, however all levels are welcome to participate. Students should have access to their own electric bass. Amplifiers will be provided by MILI. There is a minimum of  4  students per session.

8)  Intro to Chinese: Ni Hao! (Hello!) Learn basic vocabulary and greetings in the   

Mandarin dialect. Did you know you can read Chinese using the English alphabet?                                                                                  

Learn to write your name and more utilizing authentic Chinese brush. Learn about the Twelve Chinese Zodiac signs and your symbol.  Make Chinese Crafts, how to use chop sticks, sing Happy Birthday (Sheng Ri Kuai Le) and explore the Chinese culture. Celebrate the Chinese New Year (with food, music, lion dance and more.) There is a minimum of  4 students per session.

Ages: Entering 1st through 6th grade

 

 9)  Science Exploration Camp with Dr. Dino: Campers participate in highly interactive science classes consisting of  biology, chemistry magic and physics. Daily hands-on activities include living creatures, plants, chemical reactions and DNA. All campers will receive a genuine meteorite that fell from outer space and landed on our planet. Recycling and alternative energy will also be explored. There is a minimum of  4 students per session.
