THE
MILI STORY
The
Music Institute of Long Island (MILI) was established
in 1990 as a classical music academy for students
of all levels and ages interested in private
lessons and core music studies. They are
taught by an exceptional staff of professional
musicians who have been trained at preeminent
conservatories and graduate schools of music.
While MILI
is a Suzuki as well as a Traditional music school,
it strongly encourages youngsters to study the
Suzuki method, which you can read about under
Programs: Instrumental.
We offer private instruction in violin, viola,
cello, doublebass, guitar, piano, flute, clarinet,
saxophone, recorder and voice. Additionally,
there are private and group classes in music
theory, chamber ensembles for advanced students,
and performance opportunities. MILI students
traditionally excel at NYSSMA, LISFA (Long Island
String Festival Association) and other school
and music association competitions.
Music
education can begin at any age, although we
believe an early start in life promotes the
concept of a well-rounded education. MILI
offers a series of fun and non-pressured, music
appreciation programs called KINDERMUSIK®
for ages 18 months through age four. The
classes are designed at age-appropriate levels.
MILI also offers the KINDERMUSIK®
Music for the Young Child course. It
is the study of music theory basics and simple
instruments for children of ages 4 through 7.
You can learn more about KINDERMUSIK®
under Programs:
Kindermusik®.
MILI is located
in Manhasset, NY. (Please see Directions
for additional information.) It was
founded and is directed by Carol Kushner and
Geri Kushner, professional violinists and music
educators with advanced music education degrees
who have performed in orchestras and ensembles
worldwide. They believe that every child can
learn to achieve, and are committed to providing
a nurturing and enriched atmosphere that encourages
even the most hesitant of students to develop
musical abilities. For more information
